Calum's Legacy FAQs

It is our writing and publishing project for 16 to 25-year olds who may be lacking in opportunity. There are twelve fully funded places available for young people who live in East Dunbartonshire or Greater Glasgow area.

Each young person will be encouraged to experiment with writing and to find their own voice.

You will create multiple pieces of work and develop one as your own entry into a book – this could be a novella, short story, poetry or non-fiction. All twelve pieces will be combined into one anthology to be printed and sold globally.

You will also learn about every aspect of publishing – editing, cover design, typesetting and interior design to create print and eBooks.  Together we will develop a marketing and sales plan to launch and sell the book.

Our hope is that at the end of this project you will have co-produced a book, made friends, learned some valuable work skills, developed your entrepreneurial spirit, grown in confidence, built resilience and had fun.

Applications are open from 1stApril to 30th June 2019.  There may be interviews arranged to select candidates.  It is anticipated that the project will start in August 2019 and last for 12 months.

You must be between the ages of 16 and 25 by 1stJuly 2019 and live in East Dunbartonshire or Greater Glasgow area.  You don’t need to have written lots but we do want you to be interested in writing and publishing.

We are encouraging applications from people who may be lacking in opportunity to participate in writing and publishing.  Maybe you would love to work in publishing but don’t know where to start. Maybe you have a disability or have struggled with your mental health.  Perhaps you feel excluded from opportunities because of your life experiences or responsibilities.  Maybe you are just a bit lost and think that this could be a good chance to work on something creative.

We want to encourage people from all backgrounds to consider this.  You can talk to us and find out more if you are unsure.

Fill in the online application form (link here) and submit it before midnight on 30th June 2019.

We want to bring a diverse group of people together with a mix of ages, backgrounds and experiences. We recognise the opportunity to learn from each other and to develop together is huge.  We want to know why you want to take part – your enthusiasm to learn and participate is more important than your writing experience.

The group will meet in Bishopbriggs Media Centre, Crowhill Road, Bishopbriggs G64 1QY.  It is envisaged that teaching sessions will be every two weeks with times being arranged to suit the group.  Possibly one evening and one weekend session a month.

No all places are fully funded.  We also plan to offer financial support for travel.

Bestselling authors Sinclair and Kim Macleod will be the main tutors for the programme sharing their writing, publishing, marketing and positive mindset expertise.  Other tutors will be brought in as required

We also hope to provide you with access to a mentor to offer additional help and encouragement. The mentor will ideally have experience in the type of writing that you want to develop
