The Something Beautiful – Brian McAlorum

The Something Beautiful is a book of poetry about seeing the wonder in life.

For reasons relating to health, I am a bonafide hermit – though I love people and I am in love with life. Supported by my beloved wife and son, I self-manage some complex spinal conditions and symptomology, resulting from an adolescent spinal disease whose pain led me into the depths of despair – where I hung-out for eons.

What later broke through, I brought back with me – a recognition of our true inheritance beyond the physical plain. The ineffable spark, that I refer to as ‘the something beautiful’.

These scribbles, as I like to call them, are a selection of my own poetic reflections. They began to emerge spontaneously while I was a patient at the NHS Centre for Integrative Care, Glasgow. Being dyslexic, their arrival came as a complete shock – and I was literally compelled to compose the life stirring inside of me.

We all share the one heart and within her ethereal capacity to love there lives and breathes the something beautiful. It’s who we are, what connects us.

I hope in some small way these scribbles can allude to the light that beholds the journey along this bumpy path called life – by the open invitation from truth, to be reacquainted with life, as it is…
